Raspberry Pi control LCD display with Python

So, to show a text message on an LCD display connected to you Raspberry Pi you will need de following:

  1. Raspberry Pi
  2. LCD display
  3. Power supply + ethernet cable

+ some basic python skills

To get started, connect your Raspberry Pi to your computer using the ethernet cable. Once you have access to the Raspberry Pi terminal change to your preffered directory using cd.

Now, type the following command:

If you use Putty like I do, you will see a window simillar with this one:

Now, the really but really, really nice part: the code used to control the raspberry Pi’s LCD screen.

Just copy/paste this on your terminal and save it using Ctrl + O. Now, to run it, simply use the python interpretor that comes default with Raspbian:

You can change the style of the message from this line/lines:

And, that’s it. From now on you can show messages on your LCD display.
